Hair Extensions, Udon Thani, Thailand

Firstly lets say "wow!" just for the amazing result of my new hair.

Near Nong Pra Jak Lake/Park there is a cute little hair dresser located just a few shops down from Seven Eleven. They have the cutest and nicest girls there and they are quiet in business during the day, however come late afternoon to night they are the busiest place on the street!

So just a couple of weeks before we leave, I decided that it would be kewl getting some extensions since they would be reasonably cheaper than back at home.

Dave and I went to a couple of hair dressers to get some prices and ideas on what they did. The first salon was at Chareonsi Plaza, they used micro clips to attach the hair extensions, which Dave did not like at all, he said that they were visibly noticable and didnt look good. They were charging ฿12, 600 for a full-head of real hair and I think it did include cut & colour, I cant remember. But that was a little exy for me plus it is around the same price as at home.

Second was another small hairdresser nearby the main food night market. The did weave or glue. I think it was around ฿4,000 which is pretty good. We were planning on going back there the day after. But we thought we should just check in with the hairdresser closer to us, one which we frequently walk past. They were heaps friendly and the girl quoted us ฿3, 500 for the whole deal; cut, colour, hairextensions. They used glue and one of the girls had extentions already in and showed us. Dave liked the look of them. Well the price was a little better plus it was close to the internet cafe which Dave frequently visits. So we made an appointment for the next day.

On the day, the girls welcomed me and were extremely fun! I firstly got a hair wash, a cut, and then a colour. Following was another rinse & wash, blow dry and then the application of the hair extensions. While a lady was colouring my hair the other girls were colouring the hair extensions at the same colour.

In all it took 4 hours! But it was soo worth it!! I also got my nails painted while my hair was getting blow dried.

The end result, I am so pleased with. And so is Dave!! He says it looks completely natural.

Overall it totalled ฿3, 500 including the nails! which works out to be AUD$150.00 soo cheap for such a quality job!! In Australia we are looking at $500.00 and up!

I will definately get my hair done in Thailand again!! Most forums are correct when they say go to a street hairdresser over a shopping centre hair dresser, cause they charge soo much more.

More luck in Bangkok considering more people in Bangkok speak English.

Dental Work Thailand, Udon Thani

I can't believe how long it had been since I have last visited the dentist. Maybe like 8 years. I never thought there was anything wrong and too be honest I was hoping that my teeth were perfect!! =} ...haha I wish!

Anyways since we were in Udon Thani, I decided to get a check up. I heard so much about cheap dental work in Thailand and thought if I did need some work done, now would be the time.

So I went to Aek Udon International Hospital. I hear that dentists at hospitals are better for some reason over dental clinics. There are plenty of dental clinics!!

The staff were extremely professional and friendly and the dentists speak english which is awesome.

So after getting a good clean, it was found that I needed 5 fillings. So I got all that done. It was done within an hour and I got the white ones.

Overall it cost me ฿4,800 for 5 fillings, a cleaning, 1 extra and a checkup. Which is pretty damn cheap!! Considering in Australia 1 filling costs you around $100!!

Anyways, i am very pleased with the results and of the service with Aek Udon Intertional Hospital.

Visa Renewal in Vientiane, LAOS

My husband and I planned a 3 month trip to Thailand for 3 months. We arrived a few days before Thailand introduced their new immigration regulations, we were not aware of these changes which was very unfortunate for us.

We did not apply for a visa in our home country of Australia because we planned that we would do a"border run" every 30 days (the old law permitted Australian passport holders a free 30 day tourist visa every time you entered the country whether it be from an international airport or from a border checkpoint which could only be done 3 consecutive times in a time period of 90 consecutive days).

When our first 30 days was near to running out. We went to Cambodia for a one night stay. We were still oblivious to the new regualtions that had been put in place (which were implemented at the end of November 2008 by the Royal Thai Police, Immigration Bureau). When we re-entered into the Kingdom of Thailand through the land border checkpoint the immigration offiicer was suprised we did not have a visa. She stated that the law had just recently changed and we are only granted with 15 days of stay when arriving from a neighbouring country. To our suprise we were a little annoyed and a bit worried about what we would do for the remaining of our trip. So we did some extensive research online when we returned to Bangkok and decided the best option for us was to apply for a 60 day tourist visa outside of Thailand.

The most desirable place for us to go was Laos, it was pretty close and a lot of tourists go there to apply for visas. We caught a train from Bangkok Railway station direct to Nong Kai, it was a overnight trip that cost us 700฿ each (top bunk in air con cabin). From Nong Kai we were pestered by some people that said they could help us with transport and visa stuff for when we crossed the border into Laos. If we weren't in such a rush we would of opted to find a cheaper alternative but the Thai Embassy in Laos stopped taking in visa applications at 12:00pm and we only had 1 and half hours to cross the border and get to the Thai Embassy. So we paid an overpriced fee for a man to escort as to the border and help get our Laos visa, from there he got a mini van to rush us to the Thai Embassy.

Phew we made it in time. There were a lot of other tourists there as well, they were obviously applying for visas too. So we quickly filled in our forms and paid the 1000฿ fee. They told us to come back the next day at 3:00pm to pick them up. We were suprised that the processing time was so quick as we read on a few websites that it could take 5-7 days to get a visa processed!! and this was Christmas day too may I add! So it was such a relief getting our 60 day tourist visa for Thailand the very next day after we applied for it, though it was unfortunate that we booked a hotel in advance for so many days because we anticipated the wait for our visas. The first 3 days was good, however Vietiane doesn't really offer that much so it got a bit boring. Everything is overpriced and the food is not as good. Though we got cheap as DVD's for 40฿ each at the local shopping centre -- that was the biggest highlight of our trip to Vientiane for us.

So even though it was a bit of hassle having to travel on Christmas day and stress about visa issues it turned out to be quite an adventure and I am quite happy that we have that now to add to our travel experience. Though next time for convinience we will probably apply for visas in our home country to make things a little bit easier.
